Is MPG the same as MPEG?

Yes. MPG is simply the three-letter Windows extension for MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 program-stream files. The content and compatibility are identical.

Which standard does the tool export—MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?

By default we encode MPEG-2 for DVD and digital TV. You can switch to MPEG-1 in Advanced settings if you need VCD-level compatibility.

Will converting to MPG lower video quality?

MPEG compression is older than H.264, so you may need a higher bitrate to preserve detail. Increase bitrate in Advanced settings to minimise visible loss.

Can I burn the resulting MPG straight to a DVD?

Yes. The exported MPEG-2 stream meets DVD-Video specs. Import it into any DVD authoring software to add menus and create discs.

Does the converter keep my original aspect ratio (16:9 / 4:3)?

Absolutely. We preserve and flag the correct aspect ratio so the video plays without stretching.
